Grangeville

At the foothills of the Bitterroot Mountains and overlooking the Camas Prairie is Grangeville, Idaho. Many winter recreational experiences are enjoyed by Grangeville residents, including snowmobiling and cross country skiing.

Grangeville is the county seat for Idaho County. The town of more than 3,200 inhabitants acts as the commercial center for many smaller communities that surround it.

Grangeville is the home of Syringa General Hospital, and offers a museum, an art gallery, a theater, several restaurants, as well as retail shopping.

Each Saturday morning during the months from May to October, Grangeville offers a farmer’s maket located in the Heritage Town Square. Everything from produce to craft items are available. Bring your goods to sell or just come partake of the many yummy pastries, veggies and other offerings available there.

Snowhaven Ski Area is fewer than 10 miles from town, and features downhill and cross-country skiing, along with a tubing hill. The course includes a day lodge for refreshments, and ski and snowboard lessons are offered. Families enjoy the course as a place to learn as well as be challenged in the sport.

Beautiful scenery and exciting whitewater rafting are available nearby on the six national “wild and scenic” rivers. Hiking, camping, fishing and hunting are available in the five wilderness areas, four national forests and the famous Hell’s Canyon, North America’s deepest river gorge, that surround Grangeville.
